Position Overview

The Forklift Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of forklifts to move, load, and unload raw materials, finished products, and packaging within the production and warehouse areas. This role supports smooth production and distribution processes while ensuring strict compliance with health, safety, and food safety standards.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts to load, offload, and transport raw materials, packaging, and finished goods.
  • Safely stack and organize products in designated storage areas, including cold storage if required.
  • Supply production lines with raw materials and remove finished products as per production schedules.
  • Conduct daily pre-operation checks and routine maintenance on forklifts.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety guidelines, including lockout/tagout and traffic management procedures.
  • Assist with stock counts, inventory checks, and documentation when required.
  • Report any damages, malfunctions, or unsafe practices to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the warehouse and storage areas.
  • Support warehouse and production staff with general duties when not operating the forklift.

Key Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Minimum Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Valid forklift operator license (essential).
  • At least 1–2 years of experience operating a forklift in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Experience in food manufacturing or cold storage facilities will be an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of forklift safety practices and load handling.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments and under pressure.
  • Physically fit to handle lifting and movement of materials as required.
  • Reliable, responsible, and attentive to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as needed.
