Manufacturing Draftsman

Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Drawing Creation: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce detailed drawings, blueprints, and schematics for manufacturing processes, equipment, and components. This includes creating 2D and 3D models that accurately represent the design specifications and requirements.

  2. Collaboration with Engineers and Designers: Work closely with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, design objectives, and technical specifications. Collaborate on the development and refinement of designs to ensure they meet functional, aesthetic, and manufacturing criteria.

  3. Product Development Support: Assist in the development of new products or components by translating design concepts into manufacturable drawings and models. Provide input on design feasibility, material selection, and manufacturing processes to optimize product performance, cost, and efficiency.

  4. Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure that drawings and designs adhere to industry standards, regulations, and quality requirements. Conduct reviews and checks to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant specifications and guidelines.

  5. Prototype and Tooling Design: Create drawings and models for prototypes, molds, jigs, and fixtures used in manufacturing processes. Collaborate with tooling engineers and production personnel to develop efficient and cost-effective tooling solutions that meet production requirements.

  6. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain organized records of drawings, revisions, and project documentation. Update drawing libraries, databases, and documentation systems to ensure accurate and accessible information for manufacturing, assembly, and quality control purposes.

  7. Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement: Identify and resolve technical issues, design challenges, and manufacturing obstacles encountered during the development and production process. Propose innovative solutions and improvements to enhance product quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

  8. Communication and Coordination: Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, production managers, and suppliers. Provide clear and concise technical information, updates, and feedback to facilitate collaboration and decision-making throughout the product development lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA.
  • Strong technical drawing skills and knowledge of drafting standards and practices.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and production techniques.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in creating and reviewing technical drawings and documentation.
  • Problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to resolving technical issues and challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or a related field is preferred.
  • Relevant experience in manufacturing, engineering, or drafting may be required depending on the specific role and level of responsibility.

A manufacturing draftsman plays a vital role in the product development and production process, contributing to the creation of high-quality products and components that meet customer requirements and industry standards.
